Jan is the owner of our studio here in Frederick. She is also a comprehensively trained Pilates Instructor through the Club Pilates Teacher Training Program.
Kelly is a caring, passionate, enthusiastic pilates instructor who loves to create challenging and fun, full-body workouts for EVERYBODY. She has a passion for health and fitness and is always actively pursuing more knowledge as she loves learning and feels health and fitness is the backbone of a healthy lifestyle. Kelly loves all the benefits of exercise, but especially the power of pilates to leaves you feeling amazing by empowering your mind, strengthening your body and calming your spirit. Kelly has been teaching group fitness classes for over 22 years. She has a comprehensive pilates certification, a Master’s in Exercise Science and Physical Education from McDaniel’s College and a Master’s in Education from Hood College. She has been an adjunct professor at Frederick Community College for over 20 years where she teaches health and fitness classes. She was also an elementary and physical education teacher for Frederick County Public Schools. Kelly has practiced pilates for 18 years and has found it extremely beneficial with managing the chronic pain she suffers from daily. She has Chiari Malformation, a rare brain abnormality in the lower part of the brain, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder and a Tethered Spinal Cord. As fate would have it, her conditions led her to love pilates and all of its benefits. Kelly is especially driven to help others who live with painful and debilitating health conditions. She loves that pilates gives them time to appreciate their body and feel good about what it can do in addition to helping them live in less pain and live a better quality of life. Making personal connections with everyone, watching them grow and achieve goals along their pilates journey and sharing a passion for pilates are all very rewarding to Kelly.
When Kelly isn’t at the studio teaching, she loves spending as much time as possible with her husband, two daughters, parents and friends enjoying the outdoors, being active and traveling. She also enjoys reading and learning more about pilates to use in her classes.
My fitness journey began with Pilates, and arose out of a need to find something to fix my back after the strains of riding horses took its toll. Becoming a Pilates student was a fun and challenging journey, but it was also very eye-opening. The benefits a healthy pilates practice brings to one’s body is all-encompassing, and one becomes fascinated with the process. So I went for my pilates mat certifications through Power Pilates almost seven years ago. As I began to teach pilates in a group fitness environment, I became exposed to Zumba (which I fell in love with immediately), and I became a Licensed ZIN… As with most things fitness, one begins to want to broaden their horizons, and I choose to become a LesMills BodyFlow instructor (a format which I also love to do and teach). After 35 years of teaching people how to ride horses, I have happily transferred my ability to coach how people move, into the modalities of fitness I teach. But my home base has always been Pilates. And I am so excited to bring pilates to the people in the Frederick area with Club Pilates!!!
I have been an Pilates instructor, Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor since 1998. I believe in living a life full of joy, gratitude, and free of judgement. These feelings inform and guide my teaching and practice, which is focused on helping my students better connect to themselves and with their surroundings. My certifications are through Peak Pilates and Balance Bodies on all Pilates apparatus and Mat exercises.
Renée Burkett was first introduced to the Pilates Method as a young dance student. She had the privilege of taking Pilates foundation classes and learning the Method from a protégé of Joseph’s in formal classes. During those classes Renée watched hours of video footage of Joseph Pilates, himself, as he taught and instructed his method to elite athletes, private students and aspiring Pilates teachers. To this day, Renée hails back to those videos to enrich her understanding, depth of teaching and to stay true to the original intention. Renée was in a year-long Method mentorship program. There she learned much of the basics of machines Pilates. She also devoted self-study with Balanced Body. Ultimately, she ended up studying and taking workshops through Stott and received some of her certifications there. Most recently, Renée has taken her comprehensive Pilates certification through Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) and is now a PMA certified Pilates instructor. Besides Pilates machines, Renée holds advanced training in Pilates Mat and Yoga.
