Lia had been experiencing a sharp pain in her lower lumbar spine, and after researching a safe method of healing, she decided to take her first Pilates reformer class. After only a few short minutes into class, the Instructor was adjusting springs and talking Lia through a set of exercises. She explained how her focus was on correcting the muscle imbalances that caused Lia’s injury by strengthening the weak muscles and stretching tight muscles around the injured joint. After one class, the reformer helped alleviate so much pain! Lia was hooked and decided she wanted to become an instructor herself. She wanted to share this knowledge and give the same gift of relief that she had received. In 2007, after undergoing a year-long training with a master teacher, she received her certification.
Lia has been teaching since 2008 and describes herself as a lifelong student of the body. With a background in Pilates & Barre, Yoga & therapeutic exercise, Lia brings a holistic perspective to her teaching. After years of working alongside a physical therapist and studying with renowned movement teachers, Lia became a Pilates educator and currently leads comprehensive Pilates Teacher Trainings and mentors students on their wellness journey.
Today…
As a Pilates Master Trainer and Yoga Therapist with 15+ years of experience, she has taught countless numbers of clients in diverse studio settings of all sizes and mentored many to become teachers themselves. With a goal of connecting people to their bodies, Lia founded wel•lam, wellness through length & movement.
The name wel•lam, pronounced well-um, has a beautifully unique birth story. Creating the name wel•lam and its overall brand was near and dear to Lia’s heart. While she knew she wanted her full name to be part of the brand (she loves her name), nothing seemed to feel right or flow well with her first or last name. Many focus groups and brainstorming sessions with friends later, she gave a few different names a try. But it was in the fall of October 2017 when the name for her brand came together. It was her love of wellness paired with her name that was the perfect fit. The “wel” stands for wellness, and “lam” symbolizes her initials: Lia A. Masciulli. With a slight shift in pronunciation, wel•lam was born—drawing from several modalities to create her own unique brand of movement, classes, and education.
Lia has successfully guided clients of all body types, ages, and abilities to achieve their goals—she leads and mentors with an open heart. Her passion lies with connecting and honoring her clients’ individual practices and needs.
