I was a competitive track and field athlete throughout school and University. With hours of training and pushing my body to breaking point I was always plagued with the same repetitive injuries. The rehabilitation process was not providing me with a long term solution on how to prevent the re-aggravation of my injuries. My passion for sports and the amount of time I spent in rehabilation as an athlete led me to pursue a career in Biokinetics and Physiotherapy. A severe sports injury made me extremely frustrated with my slow recovery. Even with my background as a Rehabilitation Specialist, I knew I needed to find something that would help me rehabilitate faster and keep me injury free. If I could find the “something”, I would be able to help people on their injury and pain free path. A very close friend was completing her Pilates teacher training and asked me if I wanted to join her for some classes. I loved the way Pilates made me feel, how much stronger my body felt, I was moving better and could actually train harder. With regular classes I could see the physical changes to my body, I felt leaner and “taller”. I saw measurable improvements in mental and emotional well being. It increased my energy levels and decreased fatigue. I fell in love with Pilates and wanted to share the amazing benefits with everyone. I completed my Basi Comprehensive Teacher Training Certification and various specialization courses. I learnt that using exercise and movement as a treatment will benefit everyone in the short and long term. I believe that educating the body is the best medicine for creating awareness to bring those changes into your daily lifestyle. I am always excited to see and help others understand and improve their own strength, awareness, flexibility and control. I love the challenge of working with each unique body that I have the privilege to train. Quotes by Joseph Pilates: “A man is as young as his spinal column.” “As a heavy rainstorm freshens the water of a sluggish or stagnant stream, so does the Pilates method purify the bloodstream.”
