Laurel has been actively involved with the Pilates Methodology through the original studio in New York City and NY Pilates Guild since 2001. She has been professionally certified as a motor re education specialist through the Feldenkrais Guild of North America since 2006. Diagnosed with scoliosis in her youth. She was able to live an active life thanks to her study of classical Ballet technique, San Francisco Ballet Company & Pacific Northwest Ballet Company. Similar to Pilate’s core training, ballet helped her develop a healthy spine and flexible resilient body even with Scoliosis. Laurel was completing a degree in Dance Pedagogy at University of Oklahoma where the dean of her dance required her to attend Pilates classes at the University as the best means for supporting her spine and preventing injury. Returning home to Seattle she completed a 1000 hour certification In Seattle and New York City with Romana Kryzanowska the successor to Joseph Pilates (2000). She began teaching Pilates full time upon relocating to Los Angeles, California 2001. Laurel finds her most joy in helping others expose their own unknown strengths to themselves with The Pilates Method. She continues teaching internationally and holds a private practice, called Duosyns derived in Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula. When not teaching you may find her photographing landscapes, tennis, attending Opera, or time with her daughter.
