Gali Beh
Instructor
Gali fell in love with Pilates in 2009, two years after the birth of her second child. She wasn’t feeling fit like she used to and was intrigued when a friend quit her job as a lawyer to become a Pilates instructor. Gali started learning Pilates with her and became a firm believer in Joseph Pilates' assertion that “in 10 sessions, you’ll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you’ll see the difference, and in 30 sessions, you’ll have a whole new body.”
Pilates reminds Gali of dancing – her first sport – and she enjoys learning new choreography and challenging her mind as well as her body by learning new moves and flowing from one exercise to the next in group classes. She values Pilates’ low impact and variety, feeling like she never takes the same class twice. When she’s feeling tired and unmotivated, she appreciates an exercise that can even be done while mostly lying down. Having been injured from
higher-intensity sports, she appreciates that, with Pilates, there is only good muscle soreness and the invitation and ability to modify moves as much as needed to stay safe, knowing that such needs can change daily. She notices how Pilates has strengthened her other activities, allowing her to use her core and keep a healthy posture by not dumping into handlebars when biking or losing balance when paddle boarding.
Though currently landlocked and happy to walk and hike in the woods near her home or rock climb when it’s part of vacations, what she loves to do most outdoors is play in the waves of an ocean, especially boogie boarding. There is
almost never water too cold for her to get in for a dip, including alpine lakes when necessary. She relaxes by playing complicated, ritual-laden games such as cribbage and mah jongg, and she starts most Saturdays by reading a short
story in the New Yorker while drinking a hot beverage. When she can get her hands on a Liberty puzzle (trade, anyone?), she spends hours working on it while listening to a good audiobook, especially post-apocalyptic fiction. She
is also an accredited Enneagram coach and loves to help individuals and couples use the Enneagram to improve their relationships.
