Mary Jacobson

Master Trainer; Instructor
Mary fell into Pilates while teaching Body Pump at a Minneapolis YMCA where they were starting a Pilates program. At the same time, she was experiencing severe sciatica that was not improving despite physical therapy. Her PT highly encourage her to try Pilates. After a month of classes, her back pain cleared up and she was chosen to participate in the Pilates program. Mary earned her comprehensive certification via STOTT Pilates in 1997 that included mat, apparatus and reformer. There weren't even published manuals! 30 years later, Mary still is not bored with Pilates as there is always more to learn to enhance your practice and teaching. Mary still believes in the amazing benefits of Pilates whether it is to resolve an injury or to make life more enjoyable and livable. Pilates can help with little things like sitting up straight or standing in line without discomfort to strength training and boosting activities such as biking, running and sports. Mary has completed many other health and wellness certifications and trainings! That includes but is not limited to National Certified Pilates Trainer (NCPT), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) CPT, Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) Certification Level 3, TRX Group and PT, RKC Kettlebell, MELT Method Level 2, Kaiser & Schwinn Indoor Cycling, Silver Sneakers MSROM and Total immersion swim training. A self-proclaimed ‘neuro geek’ even now as she continues her functional and applied anatomy education. Prior to Pilates, Mary holds a master’s degree in communication disorders and worked as a speech-language pathologist specializing in adult neurogenic disorders and cancers. She enjoys knitting, reading, hiking, biking and travel (exchange student in Germany). Mary met her husband on a 3-day bike tour and did her first 100-mile bike ride in Death Valley.
