I recently graduated from Wayne State University with a BFA in Dance. While there, I had the opportunity to take Pilates under Eva Powers as part of my performance training. Because I was taking Pilates almost everyday, I quickly learned to love the exercise and the challenge that it brought. Being able to focus on so many components of cross training at once – balance, strength, flexibility, injury prevention, coordination, etc.-- was incredible to me. I also have been doing ballet since I was three years old, so I really loved how Pilates was a familiar combination of ballet and exercise science.
Through Wayne State’s STOTT apprenticeship program, I decided to complete my Pilates certification which allowed me to teach at Wayne State for two years before I was fully certified.
To me, the most rewarding part of teaching Pilates is seeing the cringe of hard work on the clients’ faces turn into a smile at the end because of how much motivation and grit they held onto. Really, the way your body feels after the class is the most important part! I really enjoy teaching at Club Pilates because it has taught me a lot about myself and helped me to become a better instructor.
