Growing up near the beach in Southern California and moving to the Pacific Northwest nearly twenty years ago Melanie had always enjoyed an active and healthy lifestyle. She came to Pilates after a career in photography and the birth of her twin boys in 2003 left her with chronic back pain. She became intrigued by the principles of Pilates emphasizing alignment, core strengthening, fluid motion, and balance all fueled by the breath. After five years as a client, she decided to become a student of Pilates, joining the year long certification program at Vitality Pilates. She became certified in 2011 and has been teaching mat and equipment classes ever since and loving it. Providing an environment to find focus, promote joint health and improve the mind/body connection.
Taylor began to study Pilates while earning her B.A. at Washington State University. She fell in love with how Pilates made her feel both physically and mentally. Today she is passionate about sharing those benefits with others. She does not use Pilates as a substitute for high-impact activities but rather as cross-training due to its nature of being gentle on the joints, stability focused, and effective on strengthening the deep core. Taylor is a strong believer that small changes lead to big differences! She strives for intricate detail in cue-ing to help students get the most out of each exercise. She takes an additional focus on breathing with movement to help facilitate the meditational benefits of the practice.
Karen Swift was first introduced to Pilates in an effort to recover from a back injury she sustained in a car accident in 2003. Pilates was recommended by her Physiotherapist as part of her recovery program and she quickly discovered that Pilates not only helped relieve and improve her back pain, but also improved her posture and overall strength.Inspired to understand more about how Pilates worked, and by way of a self help program, she decided to not only participate in Pilates but take her interest further by becoming a qualified instructor so she could help others experience the benefit of pilates.
Karen qualified with Body Control Pilates (Europe's largest Professional Pilates organization) in 2005 and is dedicated to continued Pilates education by regularly attending courses and workshops to keep up to date with the latest research and techniques.
Karen, originally from London, now lives on Mercer Island with her husband, 3 young kids puppy and cat. When she isn’t teaching she enjoys spending time with her family and making the most of the opportunities the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
