Meet Your Master Trainer!

Matthew Comer

A Virginia native, Matthew moved to New York City after college to study and dance at the Merce Cunningham Studio on scholarship. After transitioning from professional dance, he attended Hunter College, earning a Master of Science degree in Dance/Movement Therapy. He went on to work in mental health across a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings while simultaneously teaching group fitness and personal training.
Following his move to Miami, Matthew transitioned into fitness full-time, earning certifications through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). He also managed a residential spa for two years, where he significantly improved customer satisfaction and operational profitability.
After becoming certified in Pilates, Matthew opened his first studio in South Beach. Within one year, he expanded the business twice, ultimately growing into a 2,200-square-foot studio with additional equipment and instructors to meet increasing demand. He later became a teacher trainer for an international Pilates organization and, over the course of 10 years, helped expand its educational reach throughout Florida and across the United States while mentoring more than 500 instructors.
Matthew has presented at leading industry conferences including the IDEA Personal Trainer Institute, IDEA World Convention, Canfitpro Global Conference and Tradeshow, and the East Coast Alliance (ECA), speaking on Pilates, post-rehabilitation exercise, anatomy, and biomechanics. He has also been featured in Outside Magazine as a fitness model and contributed articles to IDEA Fitness Journal.
Matthew later relocated to Telluride, where he worked at The Peaks Resort & Spa as a trainer before serving as Interim Spa Director. He subsequently moved to San Diego and became Spa Operations Manager at Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa, a Forbes Five-Star resort. Ultimately, his passion for movement education and client transformation led him back to teaching Pilates and personal training full-time.
In June 2016, Club Pilates invited Matthew to consult on educational programming, write training manuals, and join the organization as a Master Trainer. He has been featured in both print and digital campaigns and played a key role in developing the technical curriculum and instructional videos for the Club Pilates education program launched in late 2017. Matthew continues to travel nationally teaching instructor training courses and leading brand-standard education for new instructors. In July 2018, he became a featured instructor on the Club Pilates On Demand platform.

With more than 25 years of experience in the mind-body fitness industry, Matthew is committed to teaching science-based, non-fad exercise methods that create practical, sustainable results for everyday living. His areas of expertise include functional fitness, injury prevention, adaptive exercise, and movement education. Above all, he values helping clients, students, and mentees achieve meaningful and lasting success.
