Meet Your Master Trainer!

Shalene MacKinnon
Growing up studying ballet and horseback riding, Shalene learned from a young age the importance of correct postural alignment, proper body mechanics and training muscles to find new patterns.

With a love for movement, Shalene was certified as an ALFCA group fitness instructor in 2003 teaching group exercise classes at fitness and community centers. Teaching everything from spin, step, and kickboxing to boot camp, she gained the reputation as a “group class guru” and mentored many new teachers. She continued to study movement and was certified through Can Fit Pro as a Pre and Post Natal Specialist. Shalene specialized in teaching moms how to connect with their pelvic floors, get back into shape, and feel good about themselves.

While helping people “get fit” Shalene noticed many clients held incorrect postural and mental patterns affecting their everyday lives, sabotaging their fitness efforts. Awakening to the need for a deeper connection to mindful movement, Shalene discovered the magic of Pilates. She completed the Pilates mat certification in 2005 and became a fully certified classical Pilates teacher in The Pilates Method in 2009 under the tutelage of Steven Bryson (Body Works Pilates Studio) under the supervision of the master teacher Dianne Miller (Vancouver Pilates Centre).

Shalene expanded her Pilates training and certified as a Fletcher Pilates® Intensive Licensed Provider in Fletcher Percussive Breath™, Fletcher Fundamentals™, Fletcher Towelwork®, Fletcher Floorwork®, and Fletcher Barrework™ in 2011. The Fletcher approaches movement by layering one movement skill at a time, which Shalene continues to teach today.

Shalene has completed her Sattva Yoga Teacher Training at the Sattva School of Yoga with Rameen Peyrow, founder of Sattva Yoga. Rameen has a holistic approach to teaching yoga with a strong focus on meditation & yoga philosophy, dedicated to teaching people how to realize their full potential. Constantly exploring how to connect with a deeper and more authentic experience of self, Shalene is humbled and grateful to share her love of yoga with her students.

Shalene continues to study: Myofascial release techniques, Yamuna Body Rolling, Osteopathy techniques, Pelvic floor conditioning techniques, Eldoas, Yoga, and the Eric Franklin Method to name a few. Using many modalities she helps clients overcome injuries and gives them tools to empower themselves and ultimately how to function in their daily lives pain-free.

As a Master Trainer for Club Pilates, Shalene travels nationally to facilitate 500-hour Pilates teacher training programs. As a coach, mentor, and teacher trainer, Shalene helps new Pilates teachers understand the principles and fundamentals of the Pilates method. Teachers who graduate from the fully comprehensive program go through an intensive online and in-studio training program that when completed, are eligible to teach Pilates internationally.
